Education
Since 2008, I’ve often had the opportunity to be on long term assignments photographing life at several Chicago Public Schools. Again and again, I’ve been drawn back to education and other issues concerning young people. My mission has been to portray our schools and the people who make up our school communities, as they face both immense challenges and countless triumphs.
Over the years, a portrait of Chicago young people and the adults who educate and care for them has emerged. The story is one of struggle and adversity, but also hope, joy and great resilience. An active and vibrant student life exists along with a community full of thoughtful and dedicated people.
Youth are so often at the forefront of great things--social justice movements, new ideas, and solutions—and are always challenging us to do better and be better. Let’s support and fully invest in public education for all young people, who are, each in their own way, the best and the brightest. Let’s keep our students safe and free to experience their promise and potential.
